Performing music from the medieval era to the latest contemporary repertoire, IGNEA STRATA offers a fresh perspective on old favorites and presents new and previously unheard music from composers ancient and modern.
Connected by a love of fine music and performing together with seamless blend of unique voices, musicians Lucy Conklin, Leslee Wood, Kirsten Hyde and Joanna Ehlers form the fabric of thrilling sound that is the trademark of IGNEA STRATA. Together, these musicians strive to present programs of finest quality, accuracy and beauty, adding to the rich heritage of Kansas City’s classical music community.
Lucy Conklin earned a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from the University of Kansas. She performs with Te Deum Chamber Choir, KC VITAs Chamber Choir, and serves as soprano section leader at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in downtown Kansas City. When not making music, Lucy enjoys a career as a general manager with Cost Plus World Market in south Kansas City and lives in Brookside.
Leslee Wood obtained a B.A. in music from the University of Utah and will complete a M.M. in musicology from the University of Kansas this spring with a research specialty in Medieval music. Locally, she has performed with many of the region’s fine choral groups including the AGO Schola Cantorum, Te Deum, and KC VITAs new music ensemble. Leslee is an active composer who was recently awarded the 2016 prize from the International Alliance for Women in Music.
Kirsten earned her Bachelor of Music from Kansas State University. She currently sings with AGO Schola Cantorum, KC VITAs Chamber Choir, Sacred Arts Chorale, and is an alto section leader at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Kirsten also has aspirations in the healthcare field, and currently works for Cerner Corporation as a consultant.
Joanna Ehlers is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music where she studied vocal performance, earning both a bachelor of music and master of music degree. She has performed with the Kansas City Civic Opera, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, the Ancora Chorale and is a choral scholar at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Ms. Ehlers is an accomplished equestrian and freelance writer who enjoys travel, history and the beauty of nature.
